Our northern border has seen a significant rise in illegal immigration. According to Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), one US-Canada crossing area (Swanton Sector) witnessed an 800% increase in illegal crossings ( Source). These numbers jumped to 2,607 in the first three months of 2024 from 1,147 during the same period in 2023 (Source). This sector includes 24,000 square miles and is responsible for 295 miles of the US-Canada border.
PolitiFact found these claims to be true (Source).
FAILING GRADE
Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) provided insight into the fact that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection asserted a majority of people on the terrorist watchlist crossed over America’s US-Canadian border (Source). One reason for this illegal entry by potential bad actors is that our northern border is less fortified (Source). Even Democrats have joined the conversation. Assemblyman Billy Jones (D-NY) was quoted as saying our northern border “has been pretty much ignored (Source).” He continued to say our government is “failing on immigration, and they’re failing the people that live along the border (Source).”
AMERICANS LOVE LEGAL IMMIGRATION
Most Americans agree with Clinton County Sheriff David Favro that most of these immigrants are good people who are looking for a better life. However, he accurately asserts that they are not vetted. His exact quote was, “No, they’re not; I’m telling you right now, no, they’re not (vetted)(Source).”
STATISTICS
The Vermont section of the Swanton Sector reported that in March 2024, 1,109 illegal crossings were higher than all of 2022 (Source).
WHY MEXICO TO CANADA TO US
Newsweek reported that most migrants crossing illegally are Mexican citizens who fly to Canada with its lower VISA requirements. These illegal immigrants enter the US illegally on the northern border (Source).
A WHOPPING AMOUNT OF MONEY
A recent US House report claims that America's obligation has reached a whopping $451 billion annual price tag (Source). The Take Our Border Back Convoy was proud to assert that this was a non-partisan and peaceful national event highlighting a growing crisis.
Shinder Purewal (Kwantlen Polytechnic University) said "It's easier to get a visa to Canada than to Pakistan." "More and more people are entering Canada, so they can just go straight to the US." (Source).
In 2023, 30,010 Indian nationals were apprehended at the northern border. This is striking, given that the number was 2,225 in 2021 (Source). They first enter Canda with reduced Visa restrictions.
